    Norman Borlaug * (1914 - 2009), American agronomist: father of the crop revolution.

    Joseph Watson (1873 - 1922), English industrialist and philanthropist: pioneer of industrialised agriculture.

    Margarete von Wrangell (1877 - 1932), Baltic-German agricultural chemist: the first female full professor at a German university.

    Jethro Tull (1674 - 1740), English agricultural pioneer: helped bring about the British Agricultural Revolution.

    Artturi Ilmari Virtanen * (18951973), Finnish chemist: inventions in agricultural and nutrition chemistry, especially his fodder preservation method.

    Carl Bosch * (1874 - 1940), German chemist and engineer: coinventor of the Haber-Bosch process for mass production of ammonia.

    George Washington Carver (1864 - 1943), American botanist, educator, and inventor: introduction of crop-rotation methods and peanut products.

    Edmund Quincy, American: invented the corn picker in 1850.

    Charles Townshend (1674 - 1738), British statesman and agriculturist: popularised four-field crop rotation and had an important role in the British agricultural revolution.

    Joseph Dart, American merchant: invented the steam-powered grain elevator.

    Anna Baldwin American farmwoman: invented the suction milking machine in 1878 (US patent 212423).

    John Deere (1804 - 1886), American manufacturer who founded Deere & Company: improved the steel plow.
